Hoan Gallery and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak will launch “Through the Canvas, Across the Sea,” a landmark exhibition featuring over 50 artworks by five renowned Peninsular Malaysian artists.
The show opens on March 21 at 7pm at La Promenade Mall and runs until April 21.

Renowned for his impressionist cityscapes, 84-year-old Chong, who hails from Penang, presents several notable works, including his 2001 oil-on-canvas ‘Tako Malindo Kuching’ and ‘Arulmigu Mahamariamman Temple, Queen Street, Penang’.

Lee from kedah explores intricate textile-inspired designs in his multilayered artworks and will engage visitors with a T-shirt drawing workshop.
Loo, also from Kedah, brings Malaysia’s vibrant everyday scenes to life through dynamic oils and acrylics, while Tham from Johor presents whimsical, dreamlike watercolours that intertwine ethereal figures with abstract shapes.

– Tham from Johor brings a whimsical and dreamlike quality to her watercolours, interweaving ethereal figures with abstract shapes and colours to add wonder to the exhibition narrative, while Wen Jinzhang from Kuala Lumpur presents bold, semi-abstract compositions that blend traditional motifs with expressive brushstrokes, reflecting his multi-disciplinary approach to art and creation.

This is the first collaboration between Hoan Gallery and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, highlighting the gallery’s unique position as a hub for art appreciation and development in Sarawak. Hoan Gallery Director Hoan Kee Huang said it was rare for the five masters to appear at the same time, and their enthusiasm reflected the growing art movement in Kuching.
