Hock Seng Lee gears up for a thriving new year

KUCHING: With healthy growth across infrastructure, real estate, and retail segments, Hock Seng Lee (HSL) is gearing up for an exciting year ahead.

The Kuching-based multidisciplinary construction firm has ambitious plans for property development and

continues to enhance its flagship La Promenade.

HSL has about a dozen property projects on the drawing board throughout Kuching, with around half in

advanced stages of planning. These include new units at Samariang Aman 3, Vista Industrial Park, and new

phases within its 200-acre gated community, La Promenade.

Upcoming plans for La Promenade feature limited units of two-storey semi-detached houses, as well as three-

storey luxury duplexes and bungalows. New serviced apartments and condominiums are also in the pipeline.

KEY: HSL is preparing to handover keys to La Promenade’s Precinct Grande homeowners. A new riverside park is also almost ready to open within the gated community.

HSL is preparing for the handover of La Promenade’s Precinct Grande, where three-storey homes are priced

from RM2.65mil to over RM4mil. Additionally, a new riverside park is set to open for residents of the 200-acre

gated community.

HSL’s other launches will include more pockets of landed housing along Pan Borneo Highway, and

community-centric high-rise living planned with integrated childcare facilities and plenty of fitness amenities.

“We are also glad our first condo project, Jigsaw, opposite the airport, has been so well-received,” sales and

marketing assistant manager Angie Joan Daniel said.

“Within two weeks of its launch in October, the best value studio units were booked out. The cherry on the

cake is HSL’s client list is vastly multi-racial. At Jigsaw, it’s heartening to see the condo attract interest from

people of all backgrounds.”

She said Jigsaw was HSL’s attempt to bring the luxuries of La Promenade to a wider market.

CONDO: Jigsaw is HSL’s first high-rise living product. The developer sought to bring luxuries of La Promenade to a wider market.

“I think everyone wants security, fitness facilities, and green outdoor spaces at their doorstep. Condo living is

one of the best ways to have all these at more affordable prices. Not to mention, most pools and gyms at

condos are actually larger than pools and gyms at private bungalows.”

Construction of HSL’s first architecture competition, Citadines Langit Kuching, will start soon, and results of

its second competition, AIR, will be unveiled in early 2025.

Meanwhile, HSL’s first mall, La Promenade Mall, is nearly full at about 90% tenanted.

NEARLY FULL: La Promenade Mall is over 90% tenanted. Opened during the height of the pandemic, HSL’s community-centric mall has come a long-way since.

Recently, the mall announced six new tenants: MG Cars on the ground floor, two Japanese restaurants

(Yoyogi Shabu Shabu and Aomori) on L2, Oppein (a home furnishing retailer), and AsahiLove (bridal studio)

on L3.

On L4, Sarawak Microelectronics Design is expanding its offices.

HSL’s charity tenants (who enjoy rent-free space at La Promenade Mall) are being shifted to more suitable

locations. For instance, Penan Helping Hands, which sells beautiful handbags and homewares that directly

benefit the rural community, is moving to the ground floor, where visibility is even higher.

CHARITY: The Helping Hands Penan kiosks, which are given the space by HSL rent-free, sell beautiful products that direct benefit rural communities.

“Our management continues to drive the mall in a community centric direction,” said Sunny Stephens, who is

in charge of events.

“Besides NGOs, we also collaborate with youth entrepreneurs, offering teenagers space to conduct events

and run kiosks at the mall. We’re stepping up Oktoberfest 2025 plans, and will release registration details on

Dec 20 for an even bigger 2025 HSL Samarahan Marathon,” Sunny said.

RUN: Details of the 2025 HSL Samarahan Marathon will be announced on Dec 20. The run, which attracted nearly 3,000 participants in 2024, will be on June 14-15.

La Promenade Mall opened in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, which disrupted early plans. “I

remember we could not even have an opening ceremony,” Sunny said.

“It’s heartening to see the mall fill up gradually over the years. The outright majority of original tenants like

NOMS, Hock King Authentic Chicken Rice, Black Bean Coffee and Tea, Foo Man Ting and Iced bar remain

open with us at the mall.”

The HSL personnel were speaking to reporters during the company’s media night on Tuesday here.
