TAKA PATISSERIE LATEST TO JOIN LA PROMENADE MALLPublished date:
KUCHING: Taka will open its 21st outlet under the brand’s high-end Patisserie label at La Promenade Mall here, which is part of the 10-storey HSL Tower.
Taka’s entry completes the mall’s food and beverage line-up on the ground floor. The mall — a first by the Sarawakian multi-disciplinary construction specialist — is taking on a “Support Local” policy on its tenancy selection.
“We cannot be more proud of the eateries that we’ve put together. When we wanted burgers, we approached NOMs; when we wanted coffee, we looked for Black Bean; when we wanted Taiwanese food, we talked to Rice King. All these are Sarawakian owned businesses,” leasing manager Trish Lui said.
“Our management believes that, as a Sarawakian firm, we ought to support local at this mall, which is also our very first.”
Taka Patisserie at La Promenade Mall will open in February. It will occupy a corner lot, ensuring it has high visibility to the busy Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, and easy access to both the mall’s underground and on-ground carparks.
Lui said the mall has almost 1,000 carparks, all of which will be free for the foreseeable future. This high number is to capitalise on area’s busy traffic flow, benefitting mall tenants.
“The expressway in front of us has one of the highest traffic counts in the state. On a typical Monday, it sees 69,000 vehicles. The busiest time is on Saturday morning. And even during CMCO, that road recorded 39,146 vehicles on Nov 9 — that is more vehicles than Jalan Song, which had 37,029 vehicles, Jalan Satok (35,825) and Jalan Airport (28,560) on the same date.”
Taka is one of the state’s leading food businesses. Founded in 1986 with just a little outlet at Jalan Satok, Taka’s presence is seen all over the state capital.
“At Taka, we believe in the ‘Sarawak Boleh’ spirit. We want to create a platform for our team to grow. We want to innovate and achieve breakthroughs together. Our ambition is not just to be the leader in Sarawak but as a leading Malaysian Brand,” founder Leong Kia Chun said.
Other tenants at the Mall includes Choice Supermarket and Sweat Factory. Both are anchor tenants with Choice on the ground floor, and Sweat Factory, which is a new gym by a young Sarawakian engineer-turned-fitness instructor, on the fourth floor.
Level four of the mall will include HSL’s corporate social responsibility section. The company is offering special leases to charities for workshops, store fronts and admin offices.
Uniquely, HSL Tower and La Promenade Mall are both Green Building Index certified. They are the first commercial development in the 200-acre luxury La Promenade estate, which includes gated residences.
The development is noted for its landscaping, winning in the masterplanning category at the 2018 Malaysia Landscape Architects Awards, for being a “township within a park”.
